You are here: Home1 / QRP Beach Party

Mark your calendars!  I am organizing the First Annual QRP Beach Party.  Details below.

When: Tuesday, June 23, 2026.  Meet at 11:30.  (Weather forecast is v. good – sunny and 19C).

Where: Gazebo, Finlayson Point, Dallas Road park, Victoria.

Program: Enjoy shareable BBQ lunch first, then radio set ups dispersed among the drift logs along the beach (or for those with creaky joints – find a picnic table/park bench).

Food: I will supply a portable BBQ and propane.

You bring:

– something to BBQ for yourself, condiments you like, and your drinks, plate, and eating utensils

– a shareable side (POTA to salad, coleslaw, chips, whatever)

– a shareable desert (cookies, cake, brownies, whatever). (Note* special prize for best desert…)

I will be there around 11:00. BBQ will be hot at 11:30.  Lunch over at 12:30 latest.

Radio: After lunch, pack all the food stuff back into cars and get your radio gear.  Disperse among the drift logs/trails and set up as you like.  No planning or coordination, no bandpass filters, none of that; just pot luck radio (this is not Field Day😎).  We can discuss band-sharing or time slots over lunch; that would be a nice problem to have…  All set ups should be fully self-supporting (power, rig, antenna system).  If wind is right, I might try to put up my kite antenna.  Low power please; this is to celebrate QRP radio 🤩 (shameful demerits if you use >5 W 👹).

We’ll go unless weather is absolutely awful.  Significant others welcome; also hams who would enjoy the BBQ aren’t set up for portable radio.  Come if you can, leave when you want. If gazebo is taken, we’ll move down onto the exposed bedrock near the coast.

If you know of other low-power hams who might be interested, please forward this notice to them.

No need to reply to this email.  If you’re uncertain about something, just figure it out or come prepared.👍

See you at the gazebo!

73, Scott VA7SNJ
