Antenna project using EZNEC

September 23, 2023/0 Comments/in Uncategorized/by Glenn Lindsey VA7HC

EZNEC is an excellent tool for designing and/or analyzing antennas, written by W7EL. It used to be a free version for hams, and a more thorough professional one (for $500) for engineers. They are both now available for FREE!

I downloaded it and I like it. I have been using the free version (basic) of MMANA-GAL antenna software at: http://gal-ana.de/promm/index.htm

They compliment each other very well.

Sometime this winter I want to work on a multiband vertical HF antenna to backup my 80m loop sky antenna. This will help.

Thanks for the info from roger@paltec.ca sent by Glenn.

Norm Younie VE7SAY & slot antennas

September 23, 2023/0 Comments/in Uncategorized/by Glenn Lindsey VA7HC

Norm Younie VE7SAY spoke to twenty IslandHF radio amateurs on Thursday evening September 21st. His topic was HF slot antennas. He has built his own slot and operates on all HF bands including 160. The meeting was video streamed and eight amateurs took the opportunity to link in via Zoom.

Although the video has issues (this was the first meeting using video streaming) here is the video link. Passcode is %Gs3?w1c

Luncheon at the Cobblestone Pub

September 17, 2023/0 Comments/in Uncategorized/by Glenn Lindsey VA7HC

The Saturday luncheon at the Cobblestone Pub was a great success. Nine IslandHF radio amateurs from Qualicum Beach, Duncan, Langford, the Malahat and Victoria spent two hours chatting, eating, drinking and laughing.

Some new initiatives for our club were proposed. One, in particular, is very exciting. We can’t tell you about it right yet but it will require lots of help from club members. A working committee has been struck and will be led by the Qualicum Beach team with John MacFarlane VA7PX and John Eyre VE7JEY leading the initiative. More news to come in October.

I’d like to invite other members of IslandHF to initiate the idea of creating your own team. A team of two counts! Share ideas and bring them forth to the whole club.
