Radio Solar Patrol

My first task when I joined the National Research Council in 1975 was to complete the computer control system for our solar radio telescopes. These automatically track the sun and measure the radio flux density at 10 cm (2.8 GHz). These telescopes are now located in Penticton and provide the Solar Flux Index (SFI) reported in the Propagation Forecast on our home page.

    The control and data acquisition computer had a whopping 4K words of memory and was programmed in assembly language.
