Great Zoom call on Thursday September 26th. John VA7PX spoke for about 55 minutes on his passion for POTA especially the FT8 variety.
There were twelve IslandHF members in attendance (actually 13 but VE7JEY got knocked off the air by a storm up in Qualicum Beach.) Below are photos plus a link to the video which was saved.
I like the way the Washington State QSO party ‘runs’… it’s very friendly. People stop to chat and compare notes. CW exchanges are at slow speeds, encouraging those who don’t use that mode much. And it’s daytime only; sensible. The BC QSO party and future Vancouver Island contests should follow the same format.
I’m surprised that more BC stations didn’t participate in Salmon Run; maybe they just dabble like me and don’t post their scores. (I had other activities on both days). I got 27 of the 39 counties in WA; next year I plan to take a more serious ‘run’ at the contest.
Editor’s note: Thank you Alan for “flying the IslandHF flag” in this contest.
Propagation was awful and I only made a total of five Qs on 40m for a total of 80 points. What the heck I thought, so I sent in my N1MM Cabrillo file as a 40m single band log. Much to my surprise I received a certificate for being #1 in Canada! The lesson to be learned is send in a log – you just never know.

Editor’s note: The Keyman’s Club contest is a “User Defined Contest”. For this type of contest, two UDC modules are programmed for use in N1MM+. The use of these modules were for a worldwide contest. For the proposed IslandHF contest, the modules would be written for a more local contest – at least initially.
