Special Radio Amateurs of Ukraine certificate

Brian Summers VE7JKZ, one of IslandHF’s founding members, received a special certificate from the Radio Amateurs of Ukraine. When translated it reads:

“For providing volunteer assistance to Radio amateurs of Ukraine.
Your help is very important to all of us.
Thank you and the people of Canada for your support and assistance
Glory to Ukraine”

Why did Brian receive this certificate? Check the photo below which was posted on the WARA website in December 2022. Congratulations, Brian.

A-Index – Daily Average of Magnetic Activity

I’ve often wondered what the A-Index was all about. In fact, I especially wonder about its value when I’m trying to make contacts on 40-meters and the conditions are really bad i.e., static, static crashes, QSP, etc.

Is a high A-Index reading indicative of poor radio conditions?

Below is the A-Index from July 11th. A little unsettled.
