John VA7PX and I (Glenn VA7HC) have teamed up helping each other with our CW code. We’re having so much fun I decided to use some social media to tell the world.
Roger Palmer VE7AP – his presentation
Members of IslandHF were treated to an excellent presentation by Roger Palmer VE7AP on Thursday evening, January 25th. The presentation was titled “More than a hobby”. Roger detailed his growth as a radio amateur and how it influenced him in his career and his recreational choices. They were varied and successful.
As many as 13 members were present for his warm and colorful storytelling. Today Roger resides in Oak Bay and continues to enjoy his radio amateur hobby.
You can watch a terrific video of Roger’s presentation. There’s a video link on the main website page.
7O2WX – Socotra Island, Yemen
Vladimir OK2WX starts his latest DXpedition to Socotra Island, Yemen on January 25. An announcement is up on DXNews.com. This amateur is very experienced but this site which is approximately 500 kilometers from the Yemenese shoreline seems a little foolhardy. With USAF FA-18s and Houthi missiles flying overhead, his Elecraft and ICOM rigs will be buzzing. But that’s only my humble opinion.
Perhaps it’s the whiskey; perhaps it’s the gin.
Check out his call sign on QRZ.
By the way, should you make a contact with him (he’s will be on the 160 meter contest this weekend), drop me a line via the Contact US tab and I’ll highlight your contact here.
