Spark to Space is a book about the history of Amateur Radio in Canada. It is a fascinating read with a good number of old photographs. It can be found in PDF form in the Downloads tab on this website. Who knows you might find a relative in these pages who was a radio amateur in the early twentieth century.
Seventeen IslandHF hams met for lunch on September 5th at the Thalassus Restaurant in Qualicum Beach. The restaurant is part of the Qualicum Beach Memorial Golf Club. The food was excellent.
So too was the conversation which ranged over not only many HF topics e.g., contesting but also digital happenings. The quiet periods were few and far between.
I expect more luncheons will be happening in Qualicum Beach. An easy drive from Victoria and within reach of hams living to the north.

On Thursday July 25th, seven IslandHF member sat down to a very pleasant luncheon at the Crow and Gate Pub in Nanaimo. The weather was benign and fortunately there was little forest fire smoke floating around. It’s an easy drive to up highway 1 to Nanaimo. We’ll make certain it happens again.
The food was very good, the drinks were excellent, and the conversation was delightful.
